Was there a struggle for humanity to reach the top of the food chain?

I think that in the beginning, humans had to beat all the other prehistoric creatures to become powerful, but eventually they become so many that they could beat every other creature because of their numbers..Like, right now, we could probably kill any creature just by launching a missile at them, by back then, if a saber tooth tiger attacked someone, they would be kaput.

Well, actually I don't think there was a struggle because of our EPIC POWERS, no but I think there really was no struggle because of our thumbs and brains!

yes it's true that different monkey species were fighting each other, but what you're describing there is really what happened between humans and animals, i.e., scarier creatures fighting scrawnier but more powerful creatures.

oh and pk, the question is asking what humanity had to go through in order to be at the top...or are you talking about popstick's reply?

...anyway my response is that thumbs and brains were not just the things that let us evolve and beat up our natural enemies, because they let us invent weapons and technology, and those things beat up our enemies. Thumbs and brains are the building blocks of evolution though...because if a saber tooth tiger had a bazooka, he couldn't hold it or use it.

Somewhat. I think we were always close to the top because we had weapons and fire. Fire may have scared some of what would have been predators away. But there may have been some animals that we had some trouble with early on, but figured out how to deal with them. For example the saber toothed tiger may have been a problem but they died out and that may hint we were able to deal with them.

Yeah so in conclusion we were always close to the top but it took awhile to get all they way to the top.

GOD CREATED US, THEN WE ALL DROWNED, THEN WE MATED AND CAME BACK! then there was the civilazationz. by then, we were at the top of the food chain. In noah's ark, there was no food chain or else they would all die. Anyway, humans were supposed to be at the top of the food chain and live in peace with animals, however, we created the ZOO THEORY, and then we didn't do our job. But before that, we created the ANIMAL= /Users/c14dd/Desktop/020106YA3_prv.gif theory, and by then we didn't do our job. So, we were sort of always at the food chain. And by the way, I don't blame humans for being evil, cuz if we weren't there would be no ham, chicken, pork, bacon AND FREAKIN HAM!!!!!! A WORLD OF NO HAM!!!!!!!
